Welcome

Set to launch August 10th, Romance Reviews Submitted by Authors is the brainchild of author Destiny Blaine, and a project open to all authors. Detecting a need for well-written subjective reviews, Destiny opened Romance Reviews Submitted by Authors for authors who want additional book promotion without the worry of promoting a review which is only stuffed with keywords directing a reader to another novel or short story.

This blog is also for readers of all romance genres. We hope to give each reader a true peek inside the books reviewed. We don’t ‘rate’ an author's books, but instead discuss them. We’ll give you an idea of what you might find inside the novel or novella reviewed. Then, you can decide if the book is one you’d like to read.

While our articles will be rich with appropriate keywords geared to attract search engines, our reviews will not encroach on an author's rights to promote their book fairly to a potential reading audience. Reviewers here are authors, too, and they will be instructed to bring out the positive aspects of each book while pointing out any areas of needed improvement in a constructive manner.

We don't believe in ‘anonymous’ reviews. If an author wants to review one of our books, they offer to do so in exchange for a visible byline.

More information will be posted as it becomes available. We’re glad you stopped by and look forward to serving you soon.

  1. A wonderful idea, Destiny--sorta like the academy Awards--a review by your peers.

  5. This is a great idea in the face of all the drama and angst of private reviews. As a reader...and author, I never quite know what to think about those reviews. I would be honored to be a part of this, both as a recipient and a reviewer. Thanks Destiny!

  9. Hi CR,

Thanks very much for your comment.

Like so many readers and authors, I’ve been burned by ‘anonymous’ reviews. As a reader, I’ve spent too much money on books with glowing reviews. Sadly, some of those books didn’t come close to earning their commendations. On the other hand, I’ve learned to spot stuffed, not to mention incorrect, reviews, bought a book against the reviewer’s better judgment and as you might have guessed, thoroughly enjoyed the book.

In today’s world, authors receive written reviews by exotic plants, food choices, flowers, colors, and animals. We have no idea who stands behind these ‘signed’ reviews. In rare cases, the reviews have been exceptional. However, poorly written evaluations are often the norm and sometimes the reviews posted are an obvious attempt to discredit the work and the author.

While I still believe in, and support, the reputable review sites out there, I feel it’s important to know who wrote the reviews posted at professional sites. If review sites let their guards down and their book evaluations begin to read like jumbled sentences with petty comments, I lose confidence. I’m not the only one. I’ve talked to countless authors about this growing problem and several have stopped advertising at the review sites. This move only hurts the industry and the reputable sites deserving of those advertising dollars.

The growing manipulated review problem fits with the old adage: One bad apple can ruin the whole bunch. In recent months some review sites have filled the orchard and now everyone pays the price.

At any rate, let’s return to the basics here. Let’s review books. Let’s entertain our readers with a well written review, a review written in a way to give a true overview of the book or short story submitted.

More about Romance Reviews Submitted by Authors: We’re interested in new books straight off the press. We want those golden oldies, too. We're open to all romance. If love is in the air, there's no reason whatsoever to breed hate or contempt with snarky reviews or worse—reviews filled with untrue statements.

We want to talk about the written word. We want to discuss good books and the authors who took their time to write them.

We'd love to have you participate. Email me anytime: destinyblaine@yahoo.com. Ad space is open. More covers coming soon!

  10. I agree. I have cancelled my account with one very popular review site because they post negative reviews on my author page without my permission. I have received only one negative comment thus far. But I don't like that it can be posted to my page before I even see it. I felt the comment was unfair because they had read the second book in my series and called it a shallow plot with too much sex. Had they read the first book, they would have a better feel for the characters. Even so, the plot in each book is very complex and some have more sex than others. The point in the book they chose was to establish the second mate's connection within the trio. Either way, I have shied away from reviews and focused more on working than seeking reviews. I do like this concept of paying for advertising and not the review. I have know a few people who started review sites and promise a great review for a fee. That is not what I want. Great feedback from a happy reader is the best reward :)

  11. What a great idea. I published my first romance novel last December, (hope that's okay), and have another one in the works that I hope to publish this fall. So where do I sign up? Thanks.

  17. Oh my gosh! Destiny: This is a fabulous idea and you are going to make it work. I don't like it when one author slams another writers' work. Some books work and some don't, but since the writer got it published--hurray!We sometimes forget to appreciate the effort. One of my first editors told me she bought raw talent and it often took several books for a writer to reach her stride. The other thing is that publishers often hire raw talent, too. So sometimes our editors are just as new at the game as we writers are. Anyway, I love what you are doing here, and I will participate.

    Highest Regards,
    Jackie Weger
